How to Stay Organized while you SEW

Organizing Tips and Tricks

The problem is... there's a pattern you want to make. It looks complicated. It has A LOT of pieces.

How do you keep it all organized?

Here are 5 ways I have found that work like a charm...

  1. Ziplock Bags

Most of us have a ready supply of ziplock bags. Write on the front with a sharpie pen ~ erase with nail polish remover or rubbing alcohol and recycle for the next project. Or mark contents with a scrap of paper tucked inside.ziplock bag organization

  2. Address Labels

I like to use the small labels that measure about 1/2" x 2", but regular address labels work great too. You can write multiple unit sizes on one label and cut them apart.

  3. Paper Plates

Put units from the same step on a plate, stack them up and take them to the sewing machine. If you need to take a break, the stacks of plates keep everything tidy and safe!

  4. Wonder Clips and Alphabities

I recently made one of Elizabeth Hartman's patterns for a gift. Complicated but oh so fun to make! These alphabities and wonder clips made the process go so smoothly. I love that they're reusable too.

  5. Post It Notes

Something most of us have on hand. I like the smaller 1" x 2" size or the 1/2" x 2" tabs. The super stick kind work really well, but I find I get along well with the less expensive regular post its.Post it organization
